After moving to Santa Fe, I started taking pottery classes. I’ve always collected ceramics, and wanted to know how to make my own. I ended up with so much my friends and relatives got tired of being gifted with wonky pots, so I started selling them. My small hand painted earthenware pieces seemed to resonate with people and currently I mainly make and sell those. I hand build the pottery with white or red earthenware, dry it, sand it, draw an original image with pencil, and then paint with underglazes. I try for the same whimsy that characterizes my illustrations, and gravitate toward cats, dogs and other animals, plus cowgirls, skeletons, southwest landscapes, and the occasional robot. After the first firing, I brush on clear glaze and do a second firing. It’s a lot more labor and time intensive than people think!
My work can be found in galleries and shops and online at New Mexico Creates  and etsy  and . You can also contact me directly, or arrange for a studio visit.
